home of hope, lima, peru
objective
To provide adolescents with a complete education and technical training. The goal is to equip the children with skills that allow them to live an independent life despite the physical impediments (burns, missing limbs, cerebral palsy etc) that many suffer from. Most adolescents will be former patients from the Hogar San Francisco de Asis.
solution
Set up a center of education and boarding school in Lima where education is best. The center named Home of Hope is founded and supported by Local Hero John Whelan a former volunteer at the Hogar San Francisco de Asis. The Home of Hope will be equipped with mentors and extra workshops where the children can learn specific skills and crafts after school or university.

conclusion
The ‘home of hope’ is a realistic undertaking, given the coherence of the plan and strong backing from Ireland and Peru who have already raised enough money to pay for founding and first half year of operations. It is a way to break a circle of dependence for some of Peru’s most disadvantaged children. In addition, a “snowball effect” might result when the ‘graduated’ children acquire the means to support their own families and communities.
